Yamaha Drive FAQ

The Yamaha Drive/G29 responds excellently to gear upgrades. Expect 23-27 MPH with 6:1 gears, 19-23 MPH with 8:1, or 16-19 MPH with 10:1 ratio. The Drive2 models may achieve slightly higher speeds due to improved efficiency.

G29 is the internal model code for the Drive. Drive is the 2007-2016 model name. Drive2 is the refreshed 2017+ model with updated styling but similar drivetrain. Our gears fit all three variants.

Yes! Yamaha's PTV (Personal Transportation Vehicle) models come with higher-speed gearing from the factory. Our gear sets match those specifications, giving your standard Drive the same gearing as the faster PTV models.

Yes! Many customers report successfully changing gears without fully removing the transaxle. You'll need to split it apart, but the axles can often stay in place. This makes installation easier than some other brands.
